How important for you that your bank should be operating during the weekends?

To help ease your schedule, here's a list of banks that are open when others aren't.

10 Banks That Are Open on Weekends

Contrary to popular belief, not all banks are closed on the weekends. There are some that stay open to help you out with whatever banking emergency you may have.

Let's start with one of the most popular options: TD Bank.

Are banks in the US open on weekends?
Many banks and credit unions are open on Saturdays. In rare instances, some are even open on Sundays. Be sure to check the bank or credit union's branch locator to see the schedule of your nearest branch.

TD Bank

TD Bank has the longest average open hours. They're open every day of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Although not all TD Bank branches are open on weekends, their website has a branch locator that can tell you which ones stay open.

Typically, their store hours are 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM from Monday to Friday. However, some of their branches (like the New Jersey branch) are open until 7:00 PM on Fridays.

Most TD Bank branches open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (though some may have shorter hours). Some branches also open on Sundays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

TD Bank is also closed during federal holidays except for President's Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.[1]

Why are banks closed on weekends?
Banks are closed on weekends to observe religious customs. For many faiths (like Christianity), Sundays are considered to be a day of worship and rest.

Chase

Unlike TD Bank, Chase has no open branches on Sundays, but they have long operating hours on Saturdays.

They are open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Monday to Friday in most of their branches.

Their Saturday schedule, on the other hand, is typically 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM—most of their branches are open on Saturdays too.

Chase also closes down during federal holidays. To see their operating hours, you can head to their website and check out their branch locator.

Huntington Bank

Huntington generally operates from Monday to Friday. They also have open hours on Saturdays but are typically closed on Sundays.

They're open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, some branches are only open until 4:00 PM from Monday to Thursday. For more details on a specific branch, check their branch locator.

Huntington's Saturday hours vary, but they're typically open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, depending on the branch.

They're also closed on all federal holidays.

How can I get cash out on a Sunday?
Your best bet would be an ATM. Some banks are open on Sundays in rare cases, so be sure to check your nearest branch's schedule to be sure.

Which day do you prefer to bank on weekends?

PNC Bank

PNC Bank has a lot of varying hours for their Monday to Friday schedule depending on the branch. Also, only some of their branches are open on Saturdays.

Their Monday to Friday schedule is usually 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but some branches (like their New Jersey and New York branches) are open until 6:00 PM.

PNC Bank branches that are open on Saturdays typically follow a 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM schedule.

Unfortunately, no branches are open on Sundays and during federal holidays.

Webster Bank

Formerly known as Sterling National Bank, Webster Bank has branches that are open Monday through Saturday. But they typically don't have any branches open on Sundays.

Their Monday to Friday schedules vary depending on the branch. Some are open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Monday to Thursday and have extended hours on Friday until 6:00 PM. Other branches have their Monday hours extended instead.

If the branch is open on Saturday, their hours are usually 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They're also closed on federal holidays.[2]

Is Saturday a banking day?
Many banks consider Saturday to be a banking day. Their branches will open for limited hours, usually between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Bank of America

Bank of America is usually open 5-6 days a week, depending on the branch. Unfortunately, they don't have any branches open on Sundays.

From Monday to Friday, Bank of America branch hours are usually 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, they have some branches that are open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The branches they have that are open on Saturdays operate from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Some even extend to 3:00 PM on Saturdays.

No Bank of America branches are open on federal holidays.

Fifth Third Bank

Fifth Third Bank isn't open on Sundays, but they're usually open Monday through Saturday. This is consistent for all their branches.

They're typically open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Fridays, they're open an extra hour—closing at 6:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM. On Saturdays, they're usually open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Like most of the banks on this list, Fifth Third Bank is also closed on federal holidays.

Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank operates 5 to 6 days a week, meaning they're usually closed on Sundays.

Their branch hours from Monday to Friday are usually 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Note that they have a few branches that close at 4:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM.

If the branch closes at 5:00 PM on weekdays, their operating hours on Saturday are usually 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If the branch closes at 4:00 PM, they're usually open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays. They're also closed on federal holidays.[3]

Capital One

Capital One is typically open 6 days a week. They're usually only closed on Sundays and federal holidays.

Their Monday to Friday schedule runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Saturdays, they're open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This is consistent for most of their branches.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo is generally only open 6 days a week. They're typically closed on Sundays (with a few exceptions).

From Monday to Friday, they're usually open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM—which is consistent for most of their branches.

Their Saturday hours, on the other hand, depend on the location. Some are open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM while others follow a 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM schedule.

Wells Fargo branches are closed on federal holidays.[4]

Are these schedules the same for every branch?
No. These are just the schedules for most of their branches. It's better to call ahead or check their branch locator if you want to go to one of their branches.

Honorable Mentions

Here are some other banks in the US that are open on weekends, but they operate mainly in specific states:

American Savings Bank (Hawaii)
American Savings Bank, one of Hawaii's leading financial institutions, offers convenient weekend banking. Several of their branches are open on Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays) from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Meanwhile, on weekdays, they are open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Fridays.

On holidays, American Savings Bank branches are typically closed.

Apple Bank
Apple Bank, exclusively for New Yorkers, offers weekend banking at many of its branches. They are open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, but closed on Sundays.

Their weekday hours vary by branch, but here's the usual schedule:

  • Monday to Wednesday - 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Thursday - 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Friday - 9:00 AM to between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

If you need customer support, you can reach them by phone Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

You can also check here for the full list of their branch, call center, and ATM hours.

Valley National Bank
Valley National Bank, which serves AL, FL, NJ, and NY, has branches open on weekends at select locations. Typical hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays and 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sundays.

Meanwhile, their weekday hours are typically from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You can check here to see the store hours of the specific branch you wish to visit.

How to Deposit Even if Banks Are Closed

Money still needs to move, even if banks are closed. If you need to deposit funds into your account, here are a few ways you can do that:

  • Find an ATM
ATMs usually have longer operating hours and more locations than bank branches. All you need is your debit card and PIN to access your account.

  • Online bank transfer
Transfer funds from one account to another by using your bank's mobile app or website.

  • Mobile check deposit
Most banks offer online check deposits via their app. All you need to do is log into your account and select the check deposit option. From there, take a picture of the check and it'll be deposited into your account.

Why do you prefer banks open during the weekends?

Tips & Tricks for Banking on Sundays

If you're too busy during the week and need to do your banking errands on a Saturday or Sunday, here are some handy tips:

  • See if your banking can be done online.
Nowadays, many banking tasks can be completed via website or mobile app. You can transfer funds, pay bills, check balances, and even deposit checks using your phone.

  • Do a quick Google search or give your bank a call.
This way, you can confirm their operating hours and ensure they are open when you plan to visit.

  • Prepare your documents beforehand.
This ensures your visit to the bank is smooth and prevents the inconvenience of having to return due to missing paperwork.

  • Arrive early.
Try to visit in the morning to beat the crowds. Since many banks close early on weekends, starting early ensures you have ample time to complete your banking tasks.

How to choose the best bank for you

Operating hours aren't the only factors you should consider when choosing a bank. Here are a few others that you should be thinking about:

  • Locations
National banks usually have many locations. For easy access to your money, make sure that you have a branch or an ATM nearby.

  • Customer Service
You'll want the best help possible if you encounter any problems, so you'll want a bank that either offers a 24/7 hotline or efficient online customer service.

  • Interest rates
If you're looking to grow your money over time, be on the lookout for banks that offer competitive APYs on their accounts.

  • Fees
Be on the lookout for fees that you'll be charged. Whether it be annual, monthly maintenance, or overdraft fees, these charges will eat into your savings—which none of us would ever want.

  • Services
Managing multiple accounts could be a hassle for most. Try opening an account with a bank that offers most, if not all, services you're looking for.

Bottom Line

No matter what your schedule is, it's much more convenient to work with banks that are open on more days.

Operating hours are a good thing to consider when opening an account, but remember that it isn't the only factor. Remember that you still need their services, so make sure that they can give you what you need first before making a decision based entirely on operating hours.

At the end of the day, you'll want to work with a bank that not only fits your schedule but also one that you feel comfortable with.
