Has your child outgrown their Greenlight account? Or have you simply decided that the platform isn't right for your family?

No matter your reason, it's easy to delete your Greenlight account.

What is your reason for deleting your Greenlight account?

Check out this step-by-step breakdown to cancel your account, how to remove a child from your account, and more.

What is Greenlight?

Greenlight is a popular debit card for kids that offers an educational app, among other features.

The platform lets parents supervise their kids' spending and teaches children about personal finance. It offers features like cashback, high savings rewards, and an investment platform for kids.

The Greenlight card is a great introduction to banking and financial independence. But it's not right for everyone.

If you no longer want your Greenlight card, check out how to delete your account below.

How to Cancel Your Greenlight Account Easily

You can close your account by phone or from the app.[1]

Because there's no contract, you can delete your account at any time. You won't be charged any fees when you choose to cancel your account. The support team will also help you get a refund on your remaining balance.

  2. Open Settings in your Parent dashboard
  3. Tap Account then My Plan
  4. Select Close account

Both of these methods are quick and easy.

After closing your account, your family's access to the app and debit cards will be canceled immediately, any investments will be sold at market value, and remaining account balances will be refunded in 5-7 business days.

How to Remove a Child From Your Greenlight Account

Greenlight allows you to add up to five children to your account through the parent dashboard. If you need to remove a child from your account, you'll have to fill out an online form.

Here's what to do to delete a child from your Greenlight account:[2]

  1. Liquidate all investments in your child's account and transfer all funds back to the Parent's Wallet
  2. Go to the online request form
  3. Enter your email, name, phone number, and child's name
  4. Enter a relevant subject (e.g. Remove child from my account)
  5. Give details about your request in the Descriptions box
  6. Provide necessary attachments and click on Submit

This will remove your child's profile from your account.

If you want to cancel your kid's card and remove them from your account, you'll have to call Greenlight at 888-483-2645.

How to Transfer Money Back to Your Bank Account

If you just want to withdraw your money from Greenlight, you can do so without deleting your account.

Here's how to move money back to your linked bank account or debit card:[3]

  1. Tap the three dots next to your Parent's Wallet on your Parent dashboard
  2. Select Transfer to bank account
  3. Choose the amount and Click Next
  4. Confirm the bank account you'd like to transfer money to and tap Transfer

It can take up to 3 business days for your funds to transfer back to your bank account. Keep this in mind, and plan ahead if possible.

How Many Greenlight Accounts Can You Have?

Greenlight supports up to two parent accounts and five child accounts for each family.

The monthly fee for each Greenlight plan covers all these accounts. You don't have to pay an additional fee for each child or parent.

Parents can link up to two bank accounts and two debit cards to their Parent's Wallet. These accounts are used to fund your children's Greenlight cards. You can add, edit, and remove funding sources through the parent app.

Bottom Line

A Greenlight account can help your kid learn how to safely manage money with parental supervision. But with a relatively steep monthly fee, the account isn't a good match for everyone.

Luckily, you can easily cancel your Greenlight account using the app or by phone. And you won't pay any fees to delete your account.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Greenlight, consider one of these best free debit card for kids instead.
