Best Crypto Games
Curious about the intersection of blockchain technology and entertainment? Look no further than this detailed guide to the best crypto games.
Blockchain technology has revolutionized many industries, and gaming is no exception.
While crypto games are still in their infancy, there are several popular crypto-based games worth looking into.
In this guide, learn what crypto games are, which ones are popular, and what you can expect when gaming for crypto.
What is a Crypto Game?
A crypto game is any game, either on desktop or mobile app, that interacts with a blockchain in some way. Most crypto games are based around collecting, trading, and playing with NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
NFTs act as collectible trading cards of the digital realm. And, just like in-game currencies, they can be traded for real money. This occurs in either the in-game marketplace or on actual cryptocurrency exchanges.
Crypto games are revolutionizing how real-world monetization intersects with in-game assets. Players can also often stake their in-game currency to earn more by adding to a liquidity pool.
The in-game tokens are typically built on existing blockchains, such as Ethereum, Harmony, and Wax, which means they can be sold like those currencies too.

1. Alien Worlds
Alien Worlds is the most popular crypto game at the moment. In this NFT-based sci-fi game, players explore the Metaverse, take on missions, discover NFTs and earn Trilium.
This gives players voting power in the Planet DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) elections and the ability to increase their reward pools.
Alien Worlds NFTs come in the form of cards, including avatars, minions, missions, land, weapons, tools, and more. Players can provide services such as healing minions, fight and go on quests, or mine Trilium, just like other cryptocurrencies.
Playing Alien Worlds is a mix of exploration and education, where players participate in a real/fictional economy. After all, NFTs and Trilium (TLM) have value in-game and in the real world, based on what people are willing to pay for them.
2. Axie Infinity
Fans of Pokémon, Digimon, and other collectible creatures should check out Axie Infinity. In this game, players can trade, battle, and earn with balloon-shaped creatures called Axies.
Axies come in several familiar types, including Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bug, Bird, Reptile, Mech, Dawn, and Dusk. They can be bred, get special parts, and vary by breed count, genetic purity, and a range of stats.
There's an entire marketplace dedicated just to trading Axies, and to date the most expensive one has sold for $820,000.
Axie Infinity offers a range of play modes, including:
- Adventure mode, which pits players against chimeras to win rare upgrades
- Arena PvP, where players compete for real prizes
- Breeding, where players can create new, interesting Axies from existing parents, and even sell the Axies on the marketplace
3. DeFi Kingdoms
DeFi Kingdoms is a colorful, pixelated fantasy adventure that will appeal to fans of the older Zelda and Final Fantasy games.
In DeFi Kingdoms, which is built on the Harmony ONE blockchain, players can use JEWEL tokens to purchase collectible NFTs that they can use in the game, such as heroes and kingdoms.
Players can mine through DeFi's in-game Liquidity Farming Pools and Gardens to earn more JEWEL tokens, or stake them in the Bank.
Players use their heroes to defend their Gardens from attack and increase the speed at which they can access their farmed tokens. They can also battle other players, level up, and earn better equipment, all in the form of NFTs.
4. Splinterlands
Splinterlands is a fantasy-themed digital card game that aims to combine all the best aspects of physical and digital play.
You can play anytime, trade and sell cards from collectible decks, and earn when you play. Splinterlands is also easy to get into, with quick battles that last no more than a few minutes.
They currently have a library of over 600 unique cards that can be exchanged for real crypto, combined for increased power, traded with other players, and even rented out.
Players automatically get signed up for a Hive cryptocurrency wallet when they sign up, and Splinterlands currency is compatible with blockchains such as Ethereum, Tron, and WAX.
The game has a strong social aspect too. There are ranked guilds, paid tournaments with prizes ranging from a few dollars and up, and a market where players can trade cards, land, skins, and more.
5. Arc8 by GAMEE
Arc8 is a competitive mobile gaming app where players can earn GMEE, GAMEE's native token (worth $0.0075 at time of writing) for playing a number of arcade-style games.
These games include:
- Globo Run, a speedy scroller
- Card games, including Pirate Solitaire, Samurai Hold'em and plenty more
Once they've earned enough GMEE, players can stake it in their liquidity pool to earn more.
6. Bombcrypto
Bombcrypto is a web-based NFT pixel game where players can farm, play, and earn BCOIN tokens.
Like some of the games above, players can take part in a variety of gaming modes:
- Treasure Hunt Mode, where bomber heroes are dispatched to plant bombs and break blocks to find BCOIN
- Story Mode, where players select a bomber hero and eliminate monsters in each level
- Battle Mode, where players fight Bomb Battles with one another, and the ultimate winner gets the tokens
Bomb Crypto is still very much in development, which means players can expect exciting updates throughout 2022 and beyond.
Bottom Line
The intersection of games and blockchain technology offers a lot of exciting possibilities. With all the monetization opportunities for developers, it's likely that we'll see higher-quality games develop rapidly in the near future.
So, keep your eyes open for what lies on the horizon of the crypto gaming world. For now, you can have fun trading collectible NFTs, battling with friends and strangers, and exploring fantasy and sci-fi landscapes while earning in-game currency that may just make you a little real-world money on the side.
As always, try to be responsible with your spending, and don't let a fun hobby turn into one that costs you your rent money.
