What's your top priority in a credit repair service?

What is credit repair?

Credit repair involves disputing inaccuracies in your credit reports, which can lead to their removal. This can improve your credit score over time.

Typically, credit repair companies review your reports and challenge credit bureaus for errors, such as misreported late payments, incorrect accounts, and outdated inquiries.

Keep in mind that you can do credit repair on your own too! The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows you to request your credit reports and dispute errors directly with the bureaus.

What is the average credit score of people in Arizona?
In 2023, residents of Arizona had an average credit score of 713. This is only a very minimal credit score increase from the previous year's (2022) average credit score of 712.

Credit Repair Process in Arizona

There are many ways to start doing credit repair. If you opt for credit repair services, here's how it usually goes:

  1. Sign up for a free consulation
Begin with an initial consultation to discuss your credit. Credit repair companies usually offer this for free.

  2. Professionals review your credit reports
Professionals will go through your credit reports and analyze errors like outdated items, entries with wrong information, or accounts that aren't yours.

  3. Professionals send dispute letters for you
Companies will begin the dispute by sending letters to the credit bureaus.

  4. Wait for results
Credit bureaus will investigate the dispute letter. They have 30–45 days to do this. Once the investigation is complete, credit bureaus have another five business days to send results.

Most credit repair companies operate on a dispute and re-dispute basis. If your first dispute letter doesn't result to a removal, they can send another letter to strengthen your case.

Keep in mind that a re-dispute means you need to wait for another 30–50 days to know the verdict of the credit bureaus.

How long does it take to repair a credit score in Arizona?
There is no definite timeline for repairing your credit. If you have many errors in your credit reports, it will take more time to wait for dispute results. To see realistic changes in your credit, it's best to allot a few months to a year.

Arizona Credit Repair State Law

Like most states, Arizona has its credit repair laws too. According to Chapter 11, Article 7 of Arizona Revised Statutes for Trade and Commerce, credit repair services should:[15]

  • Obtain a surety bond of 5% of the total fees charged to the buyers over the previous years — amounting to at least $5,000 and not more than $25,000
  • Provide a written contract for the client, dated and signed
  • Provide a clear notice of cancellation for the client
  • Return any payment made if you cancel the contract within 3 days of signing

The provisions in the Credit Repair Organizations Act and Telemarketing Sales Rule also apply to Arizona companies.

This means credit repair companies shouldn't make any untrue or misleading representations when advertising their services. They also can't demand upfront fees before performing your service.

Additionally, your contract should outline your rights, cancellation guidelines, service scope, and fees. In case of any violation, you're entitled to pursue legal action for recovery of damages.

How can you legitimately and legally repair bad credit?
You can legally repair poor credit by signing up with legitimate credit repair companies. These companies will dispute any items on your credit reports that are inaccurate, outdated or don't belong to you, potentially improving your credit.

Is Arizona Credit Repair worth it?

Credit repair can be worth the cost if you have many errors on your credit reports. Entries like late payments can take years to fall off and can set back your credit score by up to 100 points.

If you lack time to learn dispute strategies and state-specific laws, your dispute letters may not lead to success. Signing up for credit repair may boost your confidence in the process.

That said, if you only have a few inaccurate items to dispute, learning to do DIY credit repair may be a better option.

How can you maintain your score after repairing it?
To keep your credit score or improve it after credit repair, you can start using credit builders and settle your debts one by one. That way, you'll add more on-time payments to your credit history. You may also keep some credit cards and use it sparingly and build better financial habits.

How to Do Credit Repair by Yourself

If you lack the extra funds to sign up for credit repair, you can always do it on your own by following the process for Arizona credit repair companies.

Instead of signing up for a free consultation or credit assessment, get your credit reports from AnnualCreditReport.com, analyze your entries, and dispute errors with the credit bureaus.

You'll save money on credit repair services, but you'll need to do the legwork yourself. This includes learning state credit repair laws, using sample dispute letters, and improving your financial habits.

How to Choose an Arizona Credit Repair Company

Selecting a credit repair company is a big decision. You'll be paying significant fees and relying on professionals to challenge credit bureaus on your behalf.

To help you choose, consider these key factors:

  • History and experience
Look for companies that have a proven track record. That way, it'll be easier to get the latest news and updates regarding the company's performance, legal compliance, and accreditations.

  • Testimonials and reviews
Online platforms like BBB, Google Reviews, and Trustpilot are your best friends. Search for comments, reviews, and ratings to gauge and assess the company you're eyeing.

  • Guarantee and refund policies
Not all companies offer a guarantee and refund policy. If you want the extra safety net for your payments, go for companies with money-back guarantee or satisfaction guarantee.

  • Website and online presence
Most things are online now. Search for the company's website, social media accounts, and verified profiles online. This way, you'll see the basic information and send inquiries before you decide to sign up for their service.

Our Methodology

We chose credit repair companies with more than 10 years of experience and continue to provide services to consumers. These companies have a track record for removing millions of items and helping thousands of clients in their years in the industry.

We also look at the pricing structure and potential costs when you sign up, such as:

  • First work fees
  • Service fees
  • Other charges
  • Promos and discounts

All companies on the list have extensive websites with a large library of news, articles, and resources. Some even feature online tools to help you with your finances.

Lastly, we considered companies that had a significant number of reviews from clients and prospects. We browse platforms like BBB, Trustpilot, and Google Reviews, and look for social media profiles of these credit repair companies.

Which credit repair service feature matters most to you?

Bottom Line

Bouncing back from poor credit isn't impossible! You can still improve your credit to pave the way towards financial freedom.

One way to do this is by signing up with these companies in The Grand Canyon State. They've corresponded and challenged the credit bureaus for decades.

That said, if it's too expensive, you can always try to repair your credit yourself. Remember, by starting to improve your credit today, you pave the way for better financial opportunities tomorrow.
