DISH TV
DISH TV is a popular satellite TV provider in the US. They're known for their English language programming, but they also have plenty of Indian shows and movies as add-ons.
Under their South Asian language pack, you can find Tamil language programming. There are four packages to choose from - Tamil: Mosaic (15 channels), Tamil: Mega (7 channels), Tamil: Sun TV (1 channel), and Tamil: Star Vijay (1 channels).
They also offer other packages featuring Bangla, Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Telugu, and Urdu. Each of these languages also has its own packages to choose from.
There is one downside to DISH - you'll have to subscribe to one of their core American packages first. Only then can you add the Tamil programming add-on. The core package and add-on come with their own monthly fees, so you'll be paying extra just to watch these channels.
If you only want Tamil programming, other providers offer more channels at a lower cost. DISH is better for those who want English programming with Tamil channels as a side.
DISH is also good for those who'd like the full TV experience and want to record their favorite shows with a DVR. They have the Hopper 3 DVR, which is one of the best in the market. It records up to 16 channels at the same time and stores up to 500 hours of HD recordings.

Sling TV
Sling TV is another popular TV provider. It's a streaming TV app, and they have no contract. It's great for subscribers who prefer paying month-to-month. They also have a yearly subscription.
Since it's an app, there are also no installation fees or early termination fees. It's compatible with Amazon Fire, Smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, Roku, Xbox, and many other smart devices.
Another great thing about Sling TV is that you can just subscribe to the Tamil packages. You don't have to subscribe to a base package first. You can skip their "Blue" and "Orange" packages.
There are two packages to choose from. The first is the Tamil package, which has 50 channels (including Star Vijay, Zee Tamil, and Sun TV). The other package is Tamil Gold, which has 70 channels (including Jaya TV, JMovies, and Fast & Fun Box).
They also offer packages in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Urdu, Bangla and Bengali.
You can also use their cloud DVR to store 50 hours of recordings.
YuppTV
YuppTV is also a streaming TV service, like Sling TV. You'll need a subscription to access their content.
The great thing about YuppTV is that it specializes in Indian-language programming. It has packages for Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali and many others. Simply choose the language you'd like, and then choose a subscription package.
There are four Tamil packages. There's the Yupp Tamil Sun Pack, the Yupp Tamil Saver Pack, the Yupp Tamil Hindi Combo, and the Yupp Tamil Telugu package.
There's no contract - you can pay for the packages monthly, half-yearly, or annually.
YuppTV has no DVR feature, but they do provide a "Catchup TV" feature, which allows you to catch up watching any show or program for up to 10 days.
However, one downside of YuppTV is that it only allows for one stream at a time. You can "unlock" more streams on different devices, but you'll have to pay an additional monthly fee to do so.
MY INDIAN TV
MY INDIAN TV is an internet-based TV service, like YuppTV. They also specialize in Indian-language programming.
They have packages which feature Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and Marathi. They also have premium packages, which involve a variety of shows in Hindi and Punjabi.
There's no contract, and you can choose to subscribe monthly, every six months, or annually, depending on the package offered. For the Tamil package, you can choose between a 30-, 90-, 180-, and 360-day subscription.
MY INDIAN TV works with a set-top box to watch it on your TV (it supports the MAG Box). It also works with Android TV, Apple and Android phones and tablets, and Kodi.
They only allow one device per account. However, if you have a MAG Box, you can use that with a web/Android/Kodi session at the same time.
Like Sling TV and YuppTV, MY INDIAN TV has a 7-day playback feature for their shows and movies.
Hotstar (US)
Hotstar is a video streaming service which streams live sports, Indian TV shows, and movies. They have content in eight Indian languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Unlike YuppTV, Hotstar doesn't have packages. You pay for a premium membership, which gives you access to their content. You can find Tamil programming mixed in with other regional language programs.
The good news is, Hotstar allows you to download select movies and shows to your device. This means you can watch your content on-the-go. You can also access from a web browser on any PC/Laptop.
Bottom Line
Only a few providers offer Tamil-based programming. Providers such as DISH offer Tamil TV packages, but only as add-ons to their English core packages. You can't subscribe to the Tamil packages without their normal packages.
The upside is, that they've got a lot of Tamil TV content and packages. You're likely to find your favorite shows in their channel list. Coupled with their DVR, it would be good for consumers looking for a traditional TV experience.
For cord-cutters, you have a range of options, including Sling TV, YuppTV, and MY INDIAN TV. These are streaming TV providers with good Tamil content. You won't need to worry about installation and early termination fees either, since they have no contract. However, you would need a fast internet connection.
These providers are better if you're looking for a standalone Tamil TV subscription. They have more content, and it's cheaper than subscribing to providers like DISH.
In the end, your choices would depend on your budget and preference. DISH is great for those looking for traditional TV. Sling TV, YuppTV and MY INDIAN TV is better if you want something cheaper and without a contract.
